He began as Lead Pastor of Bellemont in January of 2024. He previously served as Pastor of Zion Methodist, GMC (2016-2023), Rock Creek UMC (2011 to 2016), and as Children’s Minister at Bellemont (2005-2011). Before coming into the Methodist Church, Richard served as Associate Pastor of Children’s and Family Ministries at Fishermen’s House Church (1998-2003) in Tulsa, and in evangelism ministries at Cathedral of His Glory in Greensboro (1993-1995). He has a passion for children and youth ministries, missions and evangelism, and a love for rural churches.
Richard has a degree in Early Childhood Development from Alamance Community College, a Bachelors in Technical Writing from North Carolina A&T, a Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School, and recently earned his Doctor of Ministry in Christian Leadership with an emphasis on community development. He is fellow of the Thriving Rural Communities program at Duke and is committed to revitalizing the rural churches of North Carolina.
Richard is an avid movie buff and a huge fan of classic cartoons. His passions also include history, writing, music, hiking, and spending time with family. His favorite catch phrase is Carpe Diem (seize the day), right after Carpe Pizza (dude…let’s get some pizza)!
